About Us

Mission

Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc. (HNC) is a community based non-profit organization committed to improving consumers health by providing comprehensive nutrition information. Our major goals are to foster dietary compliance in existing diseases and to facilitate the prevention of nutrition related disease through appropriate nutrition intervention. HNC targets culturally diverse populations who are at risk for obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension and other diet-related diseases. The mission of Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc.(HNC) is to provide nutrition education and strategies to prevent diet related diseases. HNC is committed to improving consumers' health by providing comprehensive nutritional information to culturally diverse populations through seminars and community education programs. HNC is a community-based not-for-profit (501c3) agency.

Community Activities

The founding partners of HNC are Roniece Weaver, MS, RD, LD, Fabiola D. Gaines, RD, LD and Ellareetha T. Carson, RD, LD. The partners have recognized a need to provide educational training and products to the providers of nutritional information and the general public. HNC has sponsored numerous unique programs for the community and has been recognized by the former mayor of the City of Orlando, Glenda Hood, for Hebni's health seminars "Sisters: Take Charge!" The seminars present practical information in an ethnically comfortable setting about eating healthy foods and their role in reducing the risk of having diet related illnesses such as obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and hypertension. This annual event occurs in the Spring of the year at Orange County Convention Center. More than 200 African American women attended the first seminar in 1995. The numbers have risen each year with more than 1500- 2000 women attending these conferences across the country. Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc. has been requested to share the success of this program with legislators and other organizations throughout the United States. The increasing cost of health care in the United States has become one of the biggest concerns of consumers, state and federal legislators. Educating the population concerning good nutrition is the first step in reducing the incidence of diet related illnesses, thereby reducing their risk of developing serious diet related illnesses. Thus, consumer education is the primary focus of the Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc.

Soul Food Pyramid

It is well founded that individuals who understand the consequences and apply good dietary habits live longer. A lack of knowledge among the United States population has a direct impact on the cost of health care. Food pyramids have been developed by the government and other organizations to guide individuals on the consumption of food. Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc. has determined, through contacting health care providers and targeted groups, that the standard food pyramid used today is not useful for changing the habits of some groups within the population, particularly African Americans. To address this need a food pyramid must take into account the ethnic background of the targeted group. HNC has redesigned the "Soul Food Pyramid" . Its new name will be “The New Soul Food Pyramid”, which is an and educational tool specifically designed to educate individuals that traditionally eat "soul food". Its goal is to teach minority to make smart choices about their health and diet.

To date, Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc. is unaware of another product that effectively deals with these concerns. The New Soul Food Pyramid will close the gap that currently exists in the health care arena. Health care providers need this tool to aid in communicating effectively with individuals in the targeted group.
